Bachelor of Science in Sustainability

Description and Outcomes

This interdisciplinary program in sustainability addresses challenges and opportunities around the world. The degree plan is designed to equip you with multiple critical thinking and communication skills to make you competitive in an evolving global job market. A diversified science background will help you identify environmental issues, develop sustainable practices, and implement mitigation strategies to solve real-world problems for a more resilient planet. Topics related to social and environmental justice, energy use, conservation, pollution reduction, and management will equip you with the tools needed to address pressing environmental challenges. The degree will provide you with the necessary tools and skills to communicate new ideas across various sectors. The curriculum was designed to provide career opportunities in multiple fields including environmental resource management, health care, politics, civil rights advocacy, environmental consulting, non-profit, corporate sustainability, among many others.

Program Length

The Bachelor of Science in Sustainability program consists of a minimum of 180 quarter credit hours. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a bachelor of science degree.

  1. Knowledge Base: Apply the major concepts, principles, and historical trends related to natural resource issues and their management, policies, and laws.
  2. Application: Apply the major concepts, principles, and methods of science, data analysis, and project management. 
  3. Research Methods: Evaluate current research in sustainability issues.
  4. Standards and Values: Integrate professional standards, ethical practices, and legal standards in the sustainability field.
  5. Global Awareness: Synthesize the impacts of human interactions with others and their environment on local and global scales.
